How We Started

Les Meiter founded Alex Restoration 45 years ago with only a power washer and a desire to beautify the buildings and homes in his community.

He began cleaning buildings himself in the greater New Castle area. Because of his attention to detail and absolute commitment to delighting his customers, his business grew. He expanded beyond cleaning and taught himself how to replace brick and stone, how to tuck point, how to caulk and became what we know as a restoration mason. As demand for his businesses services grew, Les hired other skilled restoration masons and led the crew himself. One crew became two and three and four and eventually more than ten crews. 

As the companies reputation grew, the demand for its services grew as well. Unlike carpentry, painting or general contracting, (trades with a lot of contractors) there are only a handful of masonry restoration contractors that can do larger scale complex projects. The most challenging projects tend to be historic restoration projects. Historical preservation standards are the most difficult to perform and with Les’ unflinching commitment to excellence, Alex became one of the few companies in the region that can perform large scale historic preservation projects that restored not just the buildings themselves, but have revitalized some of eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania’s oldest communities. 

Today, Alex Restoration has expanded even more and has locations and employees across western Pennsylvania. The historical standard for repair and restoration is the Alex Restoration standard.
